All About Boarding

By Jerald Shapiro

Skateboarding and surfing are two activities that can be equally fun and exciting. The two sports are based on very similar tools - boards. However the similarity between the two pastimes ends there since skateboarding and surfing are very much different from each other. If you are not convinced, then you definitely have to read on.

Skateboarding and Surfing Defined

Skateboarding is basically the process of rolling or moving by riding on a skateboard. With surfing, on the other hand, a person also moves while riding a board, but the movement is induced by a breaking wave. So from the very definition of the two hobbies, you can already see that they are quite different from the other. First of all, one is performed on land, while the other is performed on the surface of a body of water. Next, the mechanics of movement in the two are very different as one uses wheels and the other uses waves.

Skateboarding can also be considered a means of transportation, apart from being a sport or a hobby. Many people, kids in particular, can travel using skateboards, especially for short distances. Meanwhile, surfing is not usually considered as a way for traveling as it is only thought of as a hobby and a sport. Even people living along shores cannot travel considerable distances using a surfboard.

History of Surfing and Skateboarding

Although the origin of surfing has not yet been established, the earliest record of surfing traces back to the 1770s when Captain Cook witness people in Hawaii riding boards on the waves. Skateboarding, on the other hand is a fairly new sport and thus its origins are still very much remembered. Skateboarding was invented around the 1950s, when surfing was also becoming popular in the western world. Some say that skateboarding evolved from surfing, which is probably why it was called sidewalk surfing during its infancy.

Surfing and Skateboarding in the form the people of today know, grew popular in parallel times. Their development can thus be thought of as simultaneous. However, the tradition of surfing is more deeply rooted due to the fact that it has been existing for centuries. Nevertheless both sports are continuing to grow in the coming years.

Equipment for Surfing and Skateboarding

As mentioned, the boards used for surfing and skateboarding are very different. Surfing uses surfboards, wave skis, surf mats, kneeboards, and body boards. Boards used for surfing originally used wood, and were thus quite heavy. Eventually, surfers looked for lightweight materials so that they can easily bring around their boards, which is more difficult considering that they do not have wheels. Most surfboards nowadays are made of polyurethane foam, which is quite sturdy but very light.

In skateboarding, skateboards are obviously used. The original skateboards were reminiscent to surfboards in the sense that they were not concave, albeit having wheels. Like surfboards, the old skateboards were made of wood, and eventually of plastic. Nowadays, most skateboards are made of composite fiber and their wheels are made of clay composite or polyurethane.

Surfing and skateboarding are obviously two different sports. However the most important commonality between the two apart from their histories is the fun and excitement the both can potentially bring and the likelihood for both of them to stay popular in the years to come.

This has a lot to do with the technologically advanced era in which we live that has caused children as well as adults to become much more demanding even in the toys they play with.

Children of today want toys that are as advanced as their friend’s toys. No longer is a doll simply a doll, but it is almost as real as an actually baby. Doll’s on the market today not only cry, but they can talk, sing, walk, pee, and even need their diapers changed just like a real baby. Flashlights That Are Great For Camping And Hiking

By Victor Epand

Whether you are camping or hiking when spending your time in the great outdoors, it is extremely important to be prepared for whatever can happen. It is important to believe that no matter how prepared you may think you are, there are going to be times when you need a flashlight.

There are some powerful and indestructible flashlights in the world. Some of these flashlights were officially used by a lot of special military units across the world, including the U.S. Navy SEALs. These flashlights have a lot of feature that are unique, such as their metallic vapor coated reflectors, pre-focused reflectors, tungsten filaments with xenon and halogen gas, and many more.

Coating the reflectors with a stippled finish is akin to covering them with hundreds of tiny mirrors, each at a slightly different angle. Light bounces off the reflector at varied angles and cancels out the shadows that would otherwise be cast by the lamp filament and bulb. Most manufacturers use much less expensive smooth reflectors with the predictable outcome of spotty beams. To ensure that not a lumen of light is wasted, each lamp and reflector are matched at the factory and pre-focused within five-thousandths of an inch. No need to twist the top to get your light in focus, because it is already done no matter what distance you are looking at.

For a lamp to perform at optimum output it must burn at the highest possible temperature and to push the limits of light output, some lamps feature a tungsten filament in a high-pressure xenon and halogen gas atmosphere. These flashlights feature pyrex lenses that can withstand high temperatures and are highly impact and scratch resistant with their optical coating that ensures maximum light transmission. These lights are either CNC machined from aerospace grade aluminum or molded from nitrolon, a proprietary polymer that is non-conductive and extremely corrosion and impact resistant.

Some flashlights have a finish that is so tough that these flashlights can actually be used to saw through other aluminum flashlights with standard finishes. In addition to the inherent shock resistance built into these lights, all weapon-mounted lights and certain hand-held models are manufactured with shock-isolated lamp assemblies rated to withstand the repeated recoil of a twelve-gage shotgun.

The lock-out tail-cap feature allows the light to be locked in the OFF position preventing the possibility that the light will accidentally be turned on during storage or transportation. A flashlight can be a powerful tool to not only find and identify an opponent in the dark, but to momentarily blind them as well.

Law enforcement and military personnel finding themselves in such a scenario need a light that turns on when they need to see, and off when they want to avoid being a target. These flashlights have a momentary switch located on the tail-cap, which is located so that it can be easy to find in the dark and the momentary feature means that the switch will not remain in the ON position after the thumb has been removed — a valuable feature when someone is trying to find, or even worse, shoot you in the dark.

These flashlights are an inexpensive light that makes for a great small, personal flashlight that will refuse to let you down. They are made out of nitrolon, a proprietary polymer compound that is lightweight, corrosion-proof and non-conductive, the light is built to handle anything you can give. A molded-in gridlock pattern allows for a sure grip in any weather, although three to four times brighter than a typical two-D cell flashlight, this lightweight powerhouse is less than five inches long, which makes it ideal when space is at a premium and weight is an issue.

A Look Into Baseball Memorabilia

By Jerald Shapiro

Like how Chopsticks is to China, Baseball is to any die hard sports fan and memorabilia baseball cards are what they esteem the most. Baseball is much more than a sport. It’s almost a faith and Baseball memorabilia, Baseball cards, hats, jerseys, bats, baseballs and any other point that player might have swiped his pen across, that might have been hit and dropped and blemished and might smell of a million warm hands are bought and cool by Baseballs Fans and Fanatics alike, even when they are auctioned for prices high up in the thousands.

Baseball memorabilia are sometimes even bought with money begged, borrowed and risk I say, stolen. And if that’s not enough memorabilia baseball cards are often stolen along with jewels and money from many houses. The burglars are not baseballs fanatics; but its just that the resale rate of these, this is sometimes more than that of jewellery .The shortage of many, a baseball license increases its charge. Life even got easier for sports channels, as prizes Baseball cards and Hats from playoffs that no fan would have missed are given.

Otherwise exclusive deals with owners of autographed goods, Public Auctions and Online behest are how these everyone acquired memorabilia. Some more memorabilia Gloves, Mitts, Helmets, Posters, Signs, Plates, Pins, Buttons, Toys, Cheering Gear, Bobble heads, Figurines, Tapes of Vintage games, sports patches, magazine covers, matchbooks, Shoes etc- you name it, it’s collectible. And these wait more trendy than Jerseys of these teams custom made with the buyer’s name on it. Nevertheless that’s not the only kind of memorabilia, a detailed amusement where the squad, which the fans ingrained for won, clothes they were bearing that day, the permit to that contest, the Packet of peanuts they ate will all be beloved as more personal memorabilia.

Memorabilia from the early 1950’s till the yesterday’s pastime are existing, any little thing you are looking for can be found if you know where to look and if you are arranged for the amount its departure to sacrifice you. Players themselves do not profit in anyhow from the memorabilia. It is to do with the party and sponsoring circle making second money. Most fan clubs of players or teams will have some memorabilia among members or will have universal ownership of certain gear.

In detail a mode Baseball fan tends to disappear his baseball cards to a son or daughter in his will. It’s amazing how a little member of paper or a damaged out bat can mean so much to somebody. Memorabilia baseball cards give the players an eternity, they never die. Memorabilia baseball cards availability may be in question but its authenticity and the like for the sport and the way the fans want to recollect every match and every player is correctly something. And this is doubtless the best way to give the teams, All of them, and the players and substitutes, and the coaches they’re due reverence and place in chronicle.
